The Team
Dr. Kaavya
Krishna Kumar
Principal Investigator

Originally from Chennai, India, I earned my PhD at the University of Sydney with Dr. Dave Gell and Prof. Joel Mackay. I then joined Prof. Brian Kobilka’s lab at Stanford University for my postdoctoral training, where I studied the molecular mechanisms underlying the activation and signaling of different families of GPCRs. In 2025, I established my lab in the Department of Pharmacology at Weill Cornell Medicine, where we study how receptors sense and transmit signals across the cell membrane. Our goal is to uncover fundamental principles of receptor function and translate these insights into new therapeutic strategies.

Postdoctoral Fellow

I grew up near Ithaca, NY, and completed my PhD at the University of California, Berkeley in Udi Isacoff’s lab, where I studied the structure and dynamics of ionotropic glutamate receptors. In the Krishna Kumar Lab, I am interested in understanding how receptor conformational dynamics shape signaling. Outside the lab, I enjoy running, cycling, and spending time outdoors.

Graduate Student

Originally from Long Island, NY, I earned my degree in Biochemistry from Pace University before completing a Master’s in Biomedical Science at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. At Mount Sinai, I worked in the Schlessinger Lab, conducting virtual screening campaigns and using machine learning to study the conformational dynamics of a membrane transporter. Now a PhD student in the Pharmacology program at Weill Cornell, I am excited to combine my computational background with experimental work on projects exploring protein design and the functional analysis of GPCRs.
